Why is reverberation in the home annoying?
Reverberation in the home is annoying because it causes unrest, fatigue and poorer intelligibility.
Reverberation and echoes are disturbing due to:
- Poor intelligibility: Conversations sound hollow or echoey, forcing you to speak louder or repeat things.
- Restless atmosphere: sound waves continuously bounce, creating a busy and uncomfortable sound image.
- Mental fatigue: Your brain has to work harder to filter out noise, leading to faster fatigue and loss of concentration.
- Disturbed experience: films, music or telephone conversations sound less clear or natural.
- Cold and empty feeling: a room with reverberation often feels less cozy, as if something is missing.
What is acoustics?
Reflection – the cause of reverberation
In rooms with hard surfaces – think of bare walls, ceilings and floors – sound waves are constantly bouncing back and forth. These reflections cause a disturbing echo effect, or reverb. This quickly makes a room noisy and tiring.
Absorption – the key to peace
To understand why an acoustic painting makes such a big difference, it is good to first consider the concept of acoustics. Simply put, acoustics is about how sound behaves in a space. And you can influence that yourself.
Sound level in balance
Sound is measured in decibels (dB). For a pleasant living environment, aim for a level between 40–50 dB. Too much reverberation increases the sound pressure in a room – and you will notice it. Wandkraft helps you to bring this level back into balance.
What is Acoustic Felt?
The material is also fire-retardant, dimensionally stable, durable and completely free of harmful substances. Feltro Acustico combines top performance with safety and durability.
What is acoustic felt used for?
Acoustic felt is often found in wall panels, acoustic paintings, and partitions. It combines sound absorption with a sleek, modern look. As a result, it is widely used in the interiors of homes, offices, hotels, and restaurants, where both comfort and aesthetics are important.
Why choose acoustic felt?
Because it's more than just a technical product. Feltro acustico contributes to a pleasant living and working environment: less stress from noise, more focus while working, and a warmer atmosphere in the room. In addition, it is sustainably produced, lightweight, and easy to incorporate into design solutions that also look beautiful.
Scientific evidence
How Feltro Acustico works
Feltro Acustico is no ordinary painting – it is a silent force in your interior.
Behind the stylish design lies a sophisticated technology that drastically reduces reverberation and echoes. Our acoustic paintings are constructed from layers of high-quality acoustic felt, made from up to 60% recycled PET bottles. This material is specially developed to absorb sound waves instead of reflecting them. The open fibre structure of the felt ensures that sound is 'captured' and dispersed, instead of being echoed around the room.
With a sound absorption value of NRC 0.75, Feltro Acustico absorbs no less than 75% of the sound waves that would otherwise be reflected by your walls and ceiling .
This makes it an effective solution for spaces where tranquillity, intelligibility and atmosphere are important – from living rooms and home offices to catering and meeting rooms. Thanks to the sleek design and choice of relief or print, Feltro Acustico not only contributes to better acoustics, but also to a stylish and harmonious interior. Seeing and feeling that it works – that is the power of Wandkraft.
Scientific evidence
The effect of our acoustic paintings is not only audible, but also demonstrably proven. Feltro Acustico was developed on the basis of acoustic research and tested according to international standards for sound absorption. The PET felt used has an NRC value of 0.75 (Noise Reduction Coefficient). This means that the material absorbs 75% of the sound that comes into contact with it. This value is the result of laboratory tests in which the performance of acoustic materials is measured in controlled environments. The secret lies in the microstructure of the felt: thousands of small pores capture sound waves and convert them into minimal heat energy. No reflection, no echo - only peace. In addition, a cavity of 3 cm is created by the frame, which increases the absorption.
Acoustic Cavity
Thanks to the frame between the felt and the wall, Wandkraft creates an acoustic cavity. This clever construction doubles sound absorption compared to a stretched fabric with felt mounted flush to the wall.
When an acoustic panel is placed directly on a wall without an air gap, the effect is minimal. It may look nice, but acoustically it does almost nothing. Without the air gap, low frequencies are barely absorbed, and the room still sounds hollow or reverberant. Many people expect a big difference, but end up disappointed.
